For me, it’s probably the last gen Sunfire/Cavalier. They are such pieces of shit. We all know that. But they have two redeeming features to me.

Kinja'd!!!

First. The seats. Like a weird amount of 90s GM designs, they’re extremely comfortable, especially for the J-Body’s class. I have no idea what made 90s GM seats so comfy, but they were.

Kinja'd!!!

Second. They run like shit, but they run like shit forever. These cars are absolutely unkillable. The Hilux stands no match for the J-Body. Of course, after driving it about 5 minutes literally every body panel will fall off, and the rest of the car will rust to the ground, and everything will go wrong except the engine. But that engine WILL run. Forever. And ever. It’s like the Energizer bunny of cars.

I agree with everything you said. I had a 2002 cavalier and I drove that thing into the ground. And yes, the seats are awesome, especially since part of that time I was driving 4,000 miles a month (just at work) in that car. I’d fall asleep in it sometimes. Those seats were super comfy. Another weird thing I miss from that car? The steering wheel. There’s nothing really special about it, but it was pleasantly fat the whole way around, meaning it was easy to get a nice, comfy grip on it.

Damnit, now I miss that POS car.

The new Tahoe, as every European snob I am programmed not to like the heavy, decadent american car. But I really like the new Tahoe.

I really can’t dislike the new Tahoe. The interiors are so nice.

The Expedition and Sequoia need to step their game up. The new Armada comes close, but it’s a little too ugly on the outside. I prefer the Infiniti version.

2000 Monte Carlo ss. Enormous, crappy yet 31+mpg on the highway, smooth and reliable. Wanted that car to die to have a legit reason to replace, but the Dan thing just kept running.

I had an old co-worker that had an old sunfire. Every panel was a different colour, if it rusted she went to the scrap yard and got a “new” one. At one point it had a yellow hood, green fender, white door, red trunk lid. Your right, they are un-killable. She only sold it she found out she had stage 4 lung cancer (now passed).

I’m with you on the J-Bodies. They’re truly terrible cars, but not even teenagers can kill them.

Mine would be the GMC Safari/Chevy Astro.

Kinja'd!!!

These things drive like ass, the interior is shoddily put together at best with mediocre plastic, the brakes on my ‘94 despite being newly replaced felt downright dangerous and ABS kicked in way too soon, the electrics at times felt like they were shared with VWs, and they fold in half in an accident.

BUT, they’re the perfect size, have truck-like capability all around, they are 1000% unkillable (mine was run with barely any oil or coolant and never acted different), they’re RWD/useful AWD and snowdrift incredibly well, have parts interchangeability with tons of GM vehicles, and the later ones are quite handsome looking imo.

The interior is kinda dated as is the platform, but it looks amazing and served as the basis for my favorite group of cars: The modern Aston Martin.

Full-size diesel pickups. I absolutely hate the utter excess they represent in most cases(some people need that capability), the classic 2000's big-three arrogance, the shoddily built interiors, and the overly-manly ‘look how tough I am’ mentality they embody.

At the same time.. Just think of all the race cars and boats and toys I could pull with one! And all the space for camping trips! And it could make a solid platform for my dream overland build! And the reliability and comfortable interiors despite the build quality.

So many positives, so many reasons I don’t like them..

For all their faults those early 2000's fords and dodge diesels hold their value like crazy.

Oh I’ve noticed. Which means that I’ll unfortunately probably never have one. Like I said, with their long list of benefits if it was cheap too I could see it but I just couldn’t spend that much money on something I don’t really like

See, that look makes me simply not care how dated the interior or the platform might be. It’s just breathtaking.

With my J body which I sold in May for the astounding sum of $900, it’s running was legendary.

I sold it with 234,200 kms. It ran fine! It was actually barely rusted at all. Y’all don’t oil spray. Oil spray. it’ll help.

My parents had a 99 Sunfire convertible. You’re absolutely right when you say it runs like shit but will refuse to die. The only major thing I remember happening was the shifter cable snapping on it at one point. That’s it!

I had one for my university years (2002 Cavalier), in lieu of a place to stay. I didn’t like it, and we paid a shitload of money for it because it was our first time leasing a car and we didn’t understand how it worked. But it did get me through moving every 4 months for co-op terms so I guess I ain’t complaining.

I can’t recall ever seeing a Sunfire with those taillmaps/reflectors in the trunklid. (Maybe I was just oblivious.) Not bad.

I think it may have only been on the facelifted sedan, which was Canada-only.
